Metacognition and SpLD: learning how to learn
Metacognition involves thinking about the learning process. It requires a great deal of self-regulation and motivation, and is vital for learning success. However, in the classroom, learners with Specific Learning Difficulties are often already experiencing cognitive load, executive function problems and a sense of failure.
Dyslexia specialist, Louise Selby considers how to explicitly teach metacognition to these learners in ways that they learn. So they can thrive as independent learners, develop lifelong learning skills, and achieve academic success.
