NASS Breaking Barriers Award: Increasing accessibility and inclusivity for students with a physical disability
The NASS Awards celebrate excellence in independent special schools. The Breaking Barriers Award recognises a person, team, establishment, or organisation that has carried out exceptional work engaging with external stakeholders to ensure positive and sustainable outcomes for children and young people.
Head of School, Lisa Bond explains how a group of students from Treloar School with physical disabilities took part in Dance LIVE, a national dance competition at G Live venue in Guildford. The Treloar community and supporting partners had to overcome substantial barriers to enable the students to take part. The innovation, grit and perseverance of all involved made it possible. This led to positive and sustainable outcomes for aspiring students but also for improving accessibility in venues, encouraging future opportunities for wheelchair users to perform.
