Getting it right for neurodivergent pupils in the classroom

Effectively supporting neurodivergent pupils in the classroom is essential, as inclusive, well-planned practice directly impacts their learning, wellbeing, and long-term outcomes. Classrooms that are not designed with neurodiversity in mind can lead to anxiety, disengagement, and negative behaviour. Ultimately, when schools ‘get it right’ for neurodivergent pupils, their classrooms become a better place for everyone, where all learners feel safe, understood, and able to succeed.

Andrew Whitehouse is a specialist in neurodivergence in education with lived experience. In this session, he explores supporting neurodivergent pupils in the classroom. He looks at what it means to ‘get it right’ and how to ensure their needs are met. He also shares strategies for diversifying classroom practice, moving away from a ‘one size fits all’ approach, and introducing innovative, inspirational strategies and interventions that benefit all learners.
