Supporting PDA in the classroom: how to put a learning plan together
Strategies for supporting someone with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) focus on understanding, flexibility and reducing pressure, rather than encouraging compliance. When you have a child with a PDA Profile in your class, it can seem difficult to implement a completely different learning plan for that child, but it is possible!
Lynn McCann is an Autism, ADHD and PDA specialist teacher focused on helping neurodivergent children thrive in educational settings. In this session, she explores how to assess the strengths, demands and daily challenges for an individual child with PDA and how to use the PDA Helpful Approaches in creative and engaging ways to put a learning plan together. She also looks at ideas for how to collate evidence of learning from the child’s autonomous activities.

Very informative. A good basic understanding of PDA which has been useful to pass onto our staff in expectation of student with a PDA profile attending in September.
