Supporting dyscalculia and maths difficulties in the classroom
Are there pupils in your class who struggle with maths? Maths difficulties are best thought of as a continuum or spectrum. Dyscalculia falls at one end of the spectrum, distinguishable from other maths issues due to the severity of difficulties with number sense, including ordering, magnitude comparison and subitising.
Rob Jennings is a maths teacher, learning difficulty specialist, and co-founder of the Dyscalculia Network. He believes it’s essential to provide appropriate support and accommodations for all individuals with maths difficulties to help them overcome their challenges and reach their full mathematical potential. His session provides practical guidance on how to support dyscalculia and maths difficulties in the classroom. This includes insights on key indicators, the assessment process, and what an effective teaching intervention should look like.
