Supporting dyslexic pupils in the classroom
Dyslexia friendly teaching and learning is not all about coloured overlays! Effective support for dyslexic pupils in the classroom is crucial for their academic, social, and emotional development. An inclusive and supportive environment is essential to enable dyslexic pupils to maximise their potential. But how can this be achieved with limited available resources?
Dyslexia specialist, Louise Selby believes that there is so much that can be done to assist dyslexic pupils that is low or no budget. Her session focuses on what high quality teaching and learning looks like when it comes to learners with dyslexia, including working memory, processing speed, and literacy challenges. She also explains how these high quality teaching strategies are great for all learners, not just those with dyslexia.

Louise is also delivering a SENDcast Session focused on metacognition and SpLD. Thinking about the learning process is vital for learning success. However, pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties are often already experiencing cognitive load, executive function problems, and a sense of failure. Louise considers how to explicitly teach metacognition to these pupils in ways that they learn, so that they can thrive as independent learners.

The information was helpful, relevant and there were many practical strategies. The presenters also gave a significant amount of their time to answer questions in detail. Furthermore, the resources shared are extremely valuable. Overall, incredible value for the price. Thanks to Louise Selby and Dale Pickles.
