Supporting pupils with ADHD in the classroom
Supporting children with ADHD in school can be challenging because ADHD affects attention, impulse control, and self-regulation in ways that don’t fit the typical structure of most classrooms.
Lynn McCann is an Autism, ADHD and PDA specialist teacher. She believes all school staff should have the opportunity to explore how an ADHD brain works in order to understand why it needs movement, interest and pace to concentrate. Also, why it’s not just boys and how we miss the girls. Her session explains how to build positive relationships with ADHD children, and provides practical strategies for the classroom based on getting organised, being flexible and developing strengths.

Lynn is also delivering a SENDcast Session focused on how to put a learning plan together for a child with a PDA profile. This training looks at how to assess the strengths, demands and daily challenges for each child and how to use the PDA Helpful Approaches in creative and engaging ways. Lynn then explores how to collate evidence of learning from the child’s autonomous activities.
