What is Alternative Provision and what needs to be considered when commissioning a place?
Alternative Provision aims to ensure that every child continues to receive a suitable, meaningful education in a setting that meets their individual needs. Effective Alternative Provision is crucial because it ensures that pupils who struggle in mainstream settings have the opportunity to access the support they need to succeed.Â
Kate Browning is a School Improvement Specialist and SEND Consultant with over 30 years’ experience as a teacher, SENCO, and Local Authority School Improvement Officer for SEND. In this session, she explains what Alternative Provision is and its purpose, then highlights best practice when commissioning a placement, as well as outlining key considerations for schools looking to establish their own internal Alternative Provision.
