What is Ordinarily Available Provision and how can we ensure it makes a difference?
Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP) encompasses the support, strategies, and adjustments that mainstream schools are expected to provide for all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, without the need for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Understanding and embedding Ordinarily Available Provision ensures schools meet statutory expectations while creating inclusive environments where all pupils can thrive.
Kate Browning is a School Improvement Specialist and SEND Consultant with over 30 years’ experience as a teacher, SENCO, and Local Authority School Improvement Officer for SEND. In this session, she explores the meaning of Ordinarily Available Provision and outlines its key features. She then highlights the essential factors to ensure it is implemented effectively to make a positive difference for children and young people.
